Our Story

About The Gorilla Sip

More than a café. More than a lounge. More than a guesthouse. We are a waypoint on the road through Rwanda's volcanic north — where journey and rest converge.

The Beginning

Where the Road Bends Toward the Volcanoes

Tucked along the RN8 highway in the Cyuve Sector, at the edge of Bukinanyana and Bubandu, The Gorilla Sip sits at a point where the road bends toward the volcanoes. The coordinates -1.491284, 29.652689 mark a threshold — the last stop for coffee before the gorilla trek and the first welcome back on your return.

Founded in 2023, The Gorilla Sip was born from a simple vision: to create a space where travelers, trekkers, digital nomads, and the local community could converge over great coffee, authentic cuisine, and vibrant entertainment — all at the doorstep of Africa's most extraordinary wildlife sanctuary.

It anchors the corner of RN8 and the trailheads to Volcanoes National Park — the meeting point for trekkers, the resting place for safari travelers, and the watering hole for locals.

What Drives Us

Our Values

Every decision we make is rooted in these principles — from the beans we source to the music we book.

Warm Hospitality

Every guest is treated like family. Our staff's warmth reflects the spirit of Rwandan ubuntu — the belief that we are all connected.

Craft & Quality

From single-origin pour-overs to craft cocktails, every detail is curated. We source locally, prepare with care, and serve with pride.

Global Meets Local

A crossroads where international travelers meet Rwandan culture — our menu, music, and spirit reflect this beautiful intersection.

Rooted in Nature

Our open-air garden mirrors the volcanic landscape that surrounds us. We are part of the land, not apart from it.

A Space That Transforms

The same garden that hums with productivity by day thrums with connection by night.

Daylight Hours

The Digital Nomad's Sanctuary

By morning light, the garden fills with the aroma of single-origin Rwandan pour-overs. Laptops open on every table — remote workers, writers, and creatives from Kigali, Nairobi, and beyond have made this their northern outpost. Strong WiFi, fresh air, and a view of the volcanoes that makes every video call feel like a postcard.

After Dark

When the Fire Pit Ignites

As dusk pulls the volcanoes into silhouette, amber string lights flicker on across the garden. The fire pit crackles, the bar comes alive, and craft cocktails are poured — passion fruit and ginger, Rwandan honey and lime. Live music fills the air: Afro-jazz, acoustic kora, the occasional open-mic poet.

Coffee

The best coffee in the Northern Province, hands down. I drive up from Kigali just for their pour-overs and the garden atmosphere. A true gem on the RN8.

Digital Nomad

I came for a weekend and stayed a week. The WiFi is strong, the coffee is endless, and the Friday acoustic nights are the best thing happening in Musanze right now.

As someone who travels extensively through East Africa, The Gorilla Sip is an unexpected luxury. The rooms are spotless and cozy, the breakfast is included, and the hot rain shower after a long trek is absolute heaven.
